TEHRAN (FNA) - The Egyptian envoy to the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on Tuesday urged the International Atomic Energy Agency Chief, Mohamed ElBaradei, to provide a ground for studying Iran's initiative to ban military attacks on nuclear installations at the agency's annual meeting.

""I have the honor to inform you, on behalf of the Vienna Chapter of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), that the NAM Plenary Meeting held on l9 August 2009, decided to support the inclusion in the Agenda of the next regular session of the IAEA General Conference of the item entitled 'Prohibition of armed attack or threat of attack against nuclear installations, during operation or under construction',"" Ehab Fawzy, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the block, said in a letter to ElBaradei on Monday.
""Given the relevance of this issue, I would kindly request you to distribute this letter as an official document of the Agency,"" Fawzy added.
Tehran's Envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency Ali Asqar Soltanieh on Monday announced that the support of more than 100 countries for this vital, comprehensive and prompt initiative of Iran shows the effectiveness of the country in all IAEA affairs and displays NAM's solidarity in materializing principal stances in the nuclear agency.
Iran's request was made in early August through a letter sent to the IAEA Director General, Mohammad ElBaradei.
In that letter, Iran formally requested that the proposal be presented at the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) general conference in September.
Also, in September 1990, the IAEA general conference passed a resolution, proposed by Iran, entitled 'Prohibition of All Armed Attacks Against Nuclear Installations Devoted to Peaceful Purposes Whether Under Construction or in Operation.'
